The original Founders of this fraternal organization desired a fellowship that was lacking at Virginia Tech. Consequently, these men founded PHI KAPPA ALPHA, an organization pledged to promote fidelity, knowledge, and achievement ough these ideals were of the loftiest intentions, it was the expressed purpose of the new brotherhood to institute them in their personal and fraternal endeavors. In no other matter could these ideals be realistically applied other than by faith and work. This remains to be this organizations strength and motto.
In the fall of 1971, after having made several preliminary inquiries into organizations, it was the consensus of the members that a broader base was necessary for this organization's growth and development. In being recognized as a national fraternity and being a member of the Inter-Fraternal Council of Va. Tech, this organization would receive the same privileges and responsibilities as any other student organization.
In the same year, PHI KAPPA ALPHA received university recognition, and on the ninth of October, FKA became a colony of Alpha Tau Omega. It was to our delight and honor that an organization of ATW's high idealism and stature accepted this fraternity as its newest colony. It was apparent that ATW was one of the few national organizations that practiced ideals so closely matched to those of our founders.
A charter was granted on the 29th day of September 1973, to the Virginia Theta Delta Chapter. This was the fulfillment of a most exciting and demanding opportunity represented by the recognition of a new chapter of
ALPHA TAU OMEGA.
Philosophy of the Va. Tech Chapter of ATW
The Purpose of the ATW chapter of Va. Tech is to promote social, educational, and fraternity aspects or its brothers. The success of this fraternity will depend entirely on the spirit and work put forth by the brothers and pledges.
We will be very discrete in the choice of pledges. Our pledging will consist mainly of a trial period to make sure that the pledged get along well with the brothers and that they are willing to work for the betterment of the fraternity.
A brother of ATW is expected to promote good will towards the organization and to always display brotherhood.
